Do you feel alone in your flute learning journey?

Here at The Flute Practice, we believe that learning the flute alone is fun, but doing it in community is so much better.  Wouldn't you like to be part of an amazing group of players that not only learn together but also support each other, share in each other's joys and struggles and encourage each other in their flute playing journey's? Then read further and learn about this community and the various LIVE online classes available.

Monthly Hang Out (LIVE Q & A on Zoom)

Once a month a group of players from all over the world meets online on Zoom. We chat, share some stories and I give all of you a chance to ask me all your flute related questions. You can join these sessions without even showing your face if you are a bit camera shy!

Performers' Classes

The Performers' Classes are a great way to tackle your fear of performance but also find new depth, joy, and meaning in your flute playing. With this incredibly supportive and kind group of people, we meet twice a month to play and perform for one another, encourage each other, explore different performance management tools and so much more. Even if you never intend to perform for anyone, you will be amazed at how powerful this space is. We don't just learn how to perform, we learn how to really manage our minds and body under pressure and how to take our practicing to the next level.

Technique Classes

Technique Classes are an opportunity to really dig into your flute playing and improve your technique. We meet on Zoom, in a small group, and spend time exploring different aspects of flute playing, from tone, breathing, and support, to finger speed, scales and so much more. In these classes, I guide you through the exercise, give you a chance to try out the exercises while muted, and then work with each member of the group, one at a time, helping you improve and grow. The magic of this space? Watching and learning from others as I work with them. For some, this may sound terrifying, but it is such a great way to learn from others. Why only learn from your own mistakes when you can learn from others' mistakes as well! There is a high level of trust, support, and kindness for each other in this space while I whip you into shape and help you grow as a flutist. There are also beginner and advanced groups, so you can find the group that works at your level.

1-on-1 online flute lessons

Of course, there is nothing quite like that direct 1-on-1 time with a teacher to help guide you through your struggles and difficulties and grow as a player. I love working with flutists to help them reach their potential on the flute and have 10 years of experience in doing just this! There are, unfortunately, only so many spaces available in my teaching studio and I am currently functioning at capacity. Flutists in the performers' and technique classes are given priority to fill spaces when they open up. So if you want 1-on-1 lessons with me, start by joining the classes (you will not be sorry!) and we can discuss the possibility of lessons as we move forward. I do this for a few reasons. When I have worked with you in the group classes, I get a sense of how we work together, where you are at, and how I can best help you. I also find that 1-on-1 students that are part of these groups have much more focus and drive with the support of the community around them and they tend to progress faster.

What do you need for online classes?

You will need a good stable internet connection and a computer with a decent webcam and microphone.  There are a few possibilities for external microphones and cameras that can be bought, but to start off, whatever you have available is usually enough.  As we go, we can upgrade your setup! At the bottom of this page, I have put some recommended webcams and microphones that you CAN get if you want to. The better the equipment, the better the online experience but don't let technology hold you back. I have worked with dozens of students, some with absolutely no tech-savvy bone in their body, and they have managed!

I want to sign up...what now?

Once you have filled out the application form I will arrange for us to meet on Zoom. This gives you a chance to meet me and try out Zoom (if you don't know it yet) while at the same time giving me a chance to get to know you and assess where you are in your flute journey so we can figure out the best way forward for you. I will also give you all the information you need and answer any burning questions you may have. After this meeting, I will invite you to join one of the classes free of charge and experience first hand what it is all about. Don't worry, you don't need to perform or play at all, you can just relax and watch.

My Guarantee

As my member of my flute family, I will invest in your progress and stay dedicated to your flute journey. I will work to keep you motivated and focused on your journey and help you to see tangible results in your playing.  Yes, you can go this road alone, but I promise it is more fun and way quicker with someone else!
